Fixing healthcare IT

We don't like to admit it, but error is the third biggest killer in
the US, close after heart disease and cancer. Some of that error is
design error… computers in hospitals are astonishingly bad, and are
an embarrassment to any competent programmer. Why do we put up with
them? What has gone wrong?

More importantly, what can we do about it? Clearly, this is a complex
problem, and we will stimulate discussion and ideas from the audience.
Prof Harold Thimbleby is a professor of psychology, a professor of
computer science, and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He
has been working in user interface design for 40 years, and has been
invited to speak in over 30 countries. He is based at Swansea
University, Wales (formerly part of Europe).
